Peaks of Balkan (2656m)
Balkan Border-Crossing Trek
Overview
The Peaks of the Balkans is one of Europe’s most remote and spectacular trekking routes. Spanning across the borders of Albania, Kosovo, and Montenegro, this trail leads you through pristine alpine valleys, rugged mountain passes, and traditional villages untouched by mass tourism. Over the course of 7 days, you'll hike through the heart of the Western Balkans, discover rich cultures, and sleep in cozy guesthouses run by local families. This is a truly off-the-beaten-path adventure for those who crave nature, simplicity, and authenticity.
When is the best time to trek?
The best time to hike the Peaks of the Balkans is between June and September, when the weather is warm, the mountain passes are clear of snow, and the alpine scenery is at its finest. July and August offer the most stable conditions, with long daylight hours and green valleys in full bloom. Early June may still have lingering snow at higher elevations, while late September brings cooler air and fewer crowds — ideal for a quieter trekking experience. Trekking outside these months is not recommended due to snow and limited access to some remote areas.
